With more than 900,000 Bay Area residents telecommuting these days, home office furnishings stores are popping up all over.
But GALVINS Business & Home Office Furniture does more than just peddle desks - it helps turn your work space into a custom office.
"Most of our clients have smaller work areas," says Patrick Galvin. "We start with their measurements and tailor our furniture to suit their needs, as opposed to just trying to sell them a desk or chair or something we have in stock."
Galvin and his father, Barry, have run their Redwood City store for 12 years, and the pair just opened a branch in Berkeley. Both locations offer desks, lamps, cabinets, computer workstations, ergonomic chairs and more.
Design lines include Creative Elegance, OFFI & Co., Sligh, Sitag, Italiana Luce and Techline Studio.
A glass-topped desk system by Creative Elegance sells for about $4,000.
The company's elaborate Web site features a virtual tour that allows you to kick back and shop directly from your ergonomic chair.
Both GALVINS stores are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 1265 Veterans Blvd. (near Maple Street), Redwood City, (650) 365-7800; and 2929 Seventh Street (near Ashby Avenue), Berkeley, 510/843-7800. Bring your space measurements or call for an in-home consultation. Web site: www.galvins.com.
