Working Smart: Designing A Home Office You'll Love

Barry Galvin, of GALVINS Workspace Furniture, a member of the Western Home Fur-nishings Association since 1989, has found a niche in serving the fast paced Silicon Valley in meeting their home offi ce needs. Over the years he has seen the boom of telecommuters and the crash of dot-coms, and through it all he has made adjustments and continues to prosper. Let’s take a look at the history of Barry Galvin and how GALVINS Workspace Furniture has progressed into a SoHo (Small Office Home Offi ce) specialty store that has embraced technology as a necessity in running the business. As a matter of fact, in April 1999, Barry Galvin was awarded Myriad Software’s Retailer of the Year Award. The award is for growth and system implementation. GALVINS was among Myriad’s fi rst clients and among the fi rst with point-of-sale. Recognized for their quickness to employ technology, they have continued to evolve using Computer Assisted Design (CAD) and a full service website.In 1976, Barry was selling Hammocks in Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco, CA. After seeing the fast paced community, with their urban city lifestyles and tight living spaces, he decided to specialize in furniture that would accommodate these living styles.
